Crickets? Keep going
Well, let's get acquainted with that sound first. Crickets chirping. That's how it's going to be for most of our life. Not the sound of applause, not the chorus of praise, not the comments or notes that would acknowledge our efforts, not even the sound of people snapping their fingers to express adoration like they do at open mics or spoken word meets.
So what is it going to be then? What will keep us going? What would ease us through the doldrums and usher in the winds to lift our sails forth?
Hope. Hope that there is some one, yes just one, out there who silently reads what we write and post. Nods their head, figuratively or just winces and gazes into the void thinking, this one gets me. That's about it.
No like, no comment, no restack or not even a note needs to be there to acknowledge they've read. Perhaps, one day you'll know or you may never. However, we do what we do best. Pursue.
Let me share my motto once again please( to those who have already read it, skip to next para):
"I believe that in any creative pursuit, we are in the business of making messages in bottles. You write your heart out, create art, make music or come up with a recipe, or whatever you think your creative calling is. Once done, you gently roll it up, shove it into a bottle, cork it and fling it into the wide blue open. Someday, it will find the marooned and bring them ashore."
Now, back to crickets. Did you know? The process of rubbing their wings together is how the sound is produced. And there's a name for it - stridulatuon. Also, there's a purpose behind every type of chirping a cricket makes. It could be to call or attract mates, eventually the chirping changes to signal courtship where the male cricket is singing in its own way to make the female stay, then the male chirps to establish their territory. Obviously , it doesn't end here, the chirping becomes agressive when the presence of another male is felt. And this maybe, becomes a battle call or they just sort it out with chirps. Finally, conversation starters, and what's the best way to break ice than talk about the climate, so the temperature also influences their chirping. Ahem! You get the drift now I suppose. Next time, it's crickets, it's more than just silence. Don't let it ever discourage you. Keep at what you do best. Recognition or no recognition, it should never deter you.
Keep going.
As always, here's something to listen to at the end of this post too.
