Find rest before you rage, again. - #acnotes
Have you ever woken up from a dream midway and then when you go back to sleep, the dream continues? Well, it's a possibility. And this is applicable for dreams left unfulilled too. A dream you left incomplete for several unavoidable reasons. Right colours , wrong canvas. Right game, wrong moves. Right person, wrong time. Right ambitions, wrong job. Right place, wrong conditions. And then, at some point of time, you get a second chance to right the wrongs. Well, this song is about praying for that second chance. A pause to course correct.

Guru - an ARR and Mani Ratnam collab and another timeless Album. Most of the songs in this album are a hit. However, there is this one brief song towards the second half of the movie that really stood out for me. And it reached me at the right time, right place. On the CD, it's the last song. The lyrics is by Gulzar Saab, and I dare not say anything beyond that about his lyrical genius. The words seem simple, yet profound. Listen mindfully and you'll know.
The situation/context: The protagonist is recuperating from a fall. And this song begins as a feeble chirp at dawn after a dark stormy night. His twins/ kids sing this to the protagonist as he's bedridden. And over the duration of the film we hear it often, reverberate. The best part is when you hear it in the CD/album. Broadly, the song is split into three parts. The first part begins with KS Chitra or more so aptly titled Chinna Kuil Chitra (little koel in Tamil - I'll leave that for you to find out the reason) softly begins these words as a chant, however it's more of a war cry (not a spoiler: You'll know when you near the third part of this composition). Then fades the second part at 2:55, where ARR picks up the batton and limps a few steps, strolls a bit, and then leaps ahead, marching forward with the backing of the Madras Chorale Group to complement the final part. This is where it compounds to a war cry. A droplet at start and then a roaring and gushing river that falls with an uproar, cutting through rocks and boulders, while a rainbow arches over its drop. All through you could hear the bassy strings play like the under currents or tides, setting the tempo. In other words, 6 minutes and 30 seconds of affirmation that has helped me many a times to gain back the lost spirit - to recharge and reclaim that position I left at the battle course - to take a stand and wage again. To repose, yet never retreat.
On the whole, here's a song or rather a message in a song's guise that tells you to rest a little when it's dark. Be still when it's pitch dark. Don't move yet, take some time, catch a couple of breaths to get acquainted with the lay of the land. Wait a little for the daylight to seep in. Or, your vision will adjust itself to the darkness that envelops. And you'll find a way to make it through.
Perhaps, it's late and time for you to sleep depending on which part of the world you are in right now. When you wake and have the time and patience, give this a listen. Dreams do come true. Some times, at one go. And at times, you rest a while and revisit that dream to make it come true. Or, here's another way to look at it. You bloom wherever you're planted. At times, it's through the fertile soil. And then, there are times you wait, to break it through the hard concrete. Either way, the only way out is through it all. While at it, never forget to rest. Rest before you rage, again.
