rumination to redemption in 5 min. - #acnotes
Sometime in Jan 2022, there was an article by Shephali Bhatt on livemint.com titled - Music in the age of algorithm*. If you find the time, do give it a read. An insightful piece on how the tables have turned. It was about a prevalent trend that how the short form video sharing platforms' users have changed the dynamics about music. The music composers had to somehow ensure the first 15 seconds of the songs they turned out needed to be attention grabbing, reel worthy and appeal to the masses. Well, as the old saying goes " customer is king". That said, there have been exceptions. And these exceptions manage to stand the test of time. Imagine, I'm writing about it after almost 4 years. Perhaps, you might return to it after another 4 years and it would still connect. True? or am I just exaggerating? Perhaps, you tell me.
00:00:55 seconds of no words, no beats dropping, no thumps, yet you're cued in to listen. At a time when every other song tried to appease the Instagram/tik tok gen with songs that could be used for reels to get trending, this song veered the opposite way. Lean in and listen closely. An ounce of empathy to begin with. And you're sitting beside a widowed protagonist, not to grieve, but to hear her out. To listen to her as she records a voice note to self to gather herself up and rise. To reclaim the life lost and restart from wherever she's been left in the lurch. To come to terms with that moment she is in and move ahead where her heart leads her. Well, not a good place to be in, yet not a place to remain stuck either. However, it's the effort that matters. And that's what is captured here. Rumination to redemption couldn't have been captured any better than this in a 5 min song, where the first 55 seconds nothing happens.
More importantly, Neeti Mohan soars with Arijit Singh's music and Neelesh Mishra's words as they elevate her singing with their respective skills like the wind beneath her wings. Truth be told, the root word of Pagglait is pagal aka crazy. Indeed, a crazy feat that doesn't piggyback on the short lived trending content craze. But plays the long game in becoming a classic, over time. Listen to it, now. Maybe, you'll listen to it - time, time and again. Well, guilty. I surely did.

Thank you so much, Yui and welcome to #acnotes
Truth be told, this is just a digression from my poetry and short stories to make the best of my talent. In other words, this is what they say "fixing the nets when not fishing". Do check out the other notes and #acnotes as well whenever you find the time.
